The Kelty Company
The company designs and manufactures a variety of backpacks, luggage, child carriers, diaper bags and strollers. The outdoor line includes tents, screen tents, sleeping bags, and airbeds, sleeping mats, outdoor furniture and carports.
Kelty tents are made in dome, tunnel, cabin and combination designs, which are included in their Apex, BackCountry, Trail and BaseCamp models. The tents come in a variety of sizes that accommodate from 1 to 8 people. Most of the tent models include aluminum poles, which are not only lightweight but more durable than fiberglass.
The History of the Kelty Company
Dick and his wife Nena began designing and making framed backpacks in 1952. By 1956, Dick was able to quit his job and concentrate on the business full-time. In 1963, the Keltys supplied an American expedition to Mt. Everest. The product line continued to expand and in 1981 included luggage. The Keltys produced a women specific catalog in 1987.
Living in Boulder, Colorado, close to the Rocky Mountains, provides the ultimate backyard for testing and developing products. In 1990, the company incorporated camping gear for the entire family. Keeping up with the times, in 2001, the product line included hydration packs and jogging strollers. By 2005, camouflage fabrics were being used to manufacture products.
