Camping and backpacking are great activities for families to participate in. Not only are you enjoying the great outdoors, everyone will also be receiving exercise, sun and fresh air. This is definitely the perfect tent whether you are a new camper or a very experienced one.
All dome tents are rounded on the top, yet the walls will differ depending on what type of camping the structure is designed for. The curved surface repels wind and rain and helps to hold body heat for colder nights. Dome tents are known for their rainfly which is a piece of material you place above the tent. This feature makes your tent virtually water-proof. Many are designed in such a way that the rainfly is much larger than the tent. This allows doors and windows of your tent to remain open, even during bad weather, and keeps your structure cooler. Thanks to the rainfly, camping tents may also be made of breathable materials. Condensation is limited to the rainfly and the interior moisture of the tent may escape.
Dome tents come in a variety of sizes, ranging from 1-2 person tents all the way up to tents for 8-12 people. Smaller tents are often of the pop up variety while larger tents come with poles which are easily installed. It is suggested that after you set up a dome tent, although staking is not required, it should be done to prevent losing your tent to a strong wind. The lack of corners on this type of tent make this unlikely, yet it is always better to be safe.
Look for additional features that may make your life easier. For example, Coleman makes a tent which comes with a tent light as well as an electrical-access port which allows you to run a cord from a device in the tent to a power supply outside. This tent also comes with a covered front porch for extra living space. REI also offers a line of dome tents, many of which are three season tents.
There are a few camping tips you should consider before making any purchase. Tent life will be more fun if each person has ample room. If three people are camping, consider purchasing a tent designed for four or more. This allows room for gear and indoor activities when the weather is not cooperating. Make sure you purchase the correct tent for the season in which you will be using it and, last but not least, don’t forget the marshmallows. A dome tent, along with this treat, will help to ensure your camping trip is perfect in every way.
